taste•real from the ground upWhat started as a grassroots movement is now an established and thriving local food network and food tourism destination. The award-winning taste•real initiative connects consumers, chefs and businesses with local growers and food artisans throughout Wellington County, and it means you’re eating and buying food harvested and crafted close to home.
The taste•real Local Food Map is a year-round guide to local growers, restaurants, markets, food shops and events that make your local food experience come alive. Spring and Fall bring the popular “Rural Romps”—a chance for young and old to get onto the land and experience farms and local food businesses first-hand. The Local Food Fest turns the grounds of Ignatius Jesuit Centre on the outskirts of Guelph into a lively celebration of food, cooking and agriculture. A major highlight each year is the taste•real Field Dinner—an open-air food fund-raiser complete with celebrity chefs, held in a local farmer’s field each September. “We’re really proud of the excellent food grown in our region”, says Coordinator Christina Mann. “Taste real brings it to the table.” |
