Shopping for fresh produce, meats and cheeses is enjoyable by design here.
Styled after the European way of buying frequently to eat fresh every day, Fraberts Fresh Food is all about getting the farm to the table as quickly as possible.
Owners Jackie Fraser and Derek Roberts, the “Fra” and “berts” in the name, opened their doors a few years ago with a commitment to offer the freshest foods they could. And that meant finding local producers where produce didn’t have to be trucked for miles. They adjust both their products and their meals as the growing seasons change.
“Local food forager” Fraser and Chef Roberts are passionate about supporting local farmers and making their made-from-scratch meals as nutritious as they are tasty. Handmade gourmet pizzas have been added, with fresh twists like barbecue chicken with caramelized onion and corn, or jerk chicken with hot peppers. Thin crust. Gluten-free. A panini featuring Brie with pear and mango chutney, lobster rolls, deli sandwiches and take-home salads make for a well-balanced, food-to-go approach. Deli meats are marinated and cooked here, then hand sliced as needed to maintain flavour.
From stews and luscious pies to soups and pizza, Chef Roberts begins and ends with fresh. The result, he says, is just like Mom makes—or very close to it. But then Mom probably didn’t add locally brewed Hockley Valley dark ale to her beef stew.
