Be prepared for a mouth-watering moment when you step through the door at Fergies Fine Foods.
Miriam’s in the back, baking handmade chicken pot pies. Cooling on the top of the counter are caramel shortbreads. Already on display—sinfully rich butter tarts and freshly baked apple pies.
Miriam is one of three Fergies’ owners, a cooperative where each has their own food specialty, making for a great mix of fresh food to take out. Ken handles seafood and meats; the display case is brimming with salmon, scallops and rainbow trout, while on the lower shelf are handcrafted sausages. Wade prepares many of the take-home meals. His lasagna is practically to die for, loaded with meat, three cheeses and his own made-from-scratch pasta sauce.
Everyone shares in making the two or three different soups offered daily along with the creative lunchtime specials. Today it’s a Sweet Thai Coconut Tilapia Wrap. With counter in back and chalkboards behind, the ambiance has the warmth of a small town general store.
“Fergies was created because we had a passion for great food and a desire to make life in Fergus a little easier for everyone,” explains Miriam. “We each brought a set of skills to the table that together gives us the ability to offer healthy lunches and meals for take-out, to people who don’t always have time to make it from scratch.”
With locations in both Fergus and Erin, Fergies is a fun little shop to drop in and say hello. You'll usually find the team cooking and baking up something delicious to take home with you.
