4th Annual Elora Horse & Hound Parade
Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., the horses and hounds are back!
Downton Abbey comes to Downtown Elora.
Once again this year, Ontario’s Most Beautiful Village will host the pomp and circumstance of the Eglinton & Caledon Horse and Hound parade, benefiting Groves Memorial Hospital!
Rain or shine, the excitement begins at one o’clock in the afternoon, Sunday October 4th, at the Elora Mill Inn (plan to arrive PRIOR to 1pm!), where you can meet and mingle with the riders, horses and hounds. There will be refreshments available for purchase and this is a licensed event. Here will also take place the official ceremonies for the day, photo opportunities, and the “stirrup cup,” the official toast to the riders!
At about 1:30pm, set against the spectacular autumn scenery of the village, up to 25 liveried riders and the frolicking hounds depart the Mill and take to the streets in this non-sporting event, collecting free-will donations as they go. There are amazing photo opportunities along the way!
After promenading through the streets with photo rests at City Hall (One MacDonald Square) and the Mill Street Bistro and Smokehouse (15 East Mill Street), the parade returns to the Elora Mill Inn for a short final photo op before returning to the marshaling area (parking lot on the south side of the Metcalfe Street Bridge).
New this year, Huntsman Colin Brown will be conducting a “horn blowing” demonstration at the Mill, at the conclusion of the event!
The Elora Horse and Hound parade has been actively raising funds to assist Groves Memorial Hospital with its purchase of an electro-mammogram machine to serve our community. Last year our attendance was estimated to be 5000 people! To date, more than $15,000 has been raised to aid in the cause. We hope for an even larger attendance and an even more generous spirit as we take to the streets again this year with our cause!
